Reach 03:50
VERSE I Racing down route 81 Another conversation, has begun Between me, myself, don't need no help Just another dreamer on the run I hear all the things they say Too set in my ways to complicate The way things are, and its so far But I won't just sit around and wait CHORUS Gotta' reach a little more Gotta' show 'em what we're fighting for If its all the same, I'll take the pain 'Cause we gotta reach a little more We're never going to walk away We’re gonna make our choices, every day Never going to break, we know the stakes And we're never going to walk away VERSE II Some say it takes a day And its not what you give, its what you take Do you agree or can't you see There’s more than just one single way If it takes a little time Isn’t that worth it, in your mind? To see things through, it’s up to you On whether it will pass you by BRIDGE We'll climb mountains high And the valley we'll leave behind In the darkness of the night We'll reach for the light
2.
VERSE I Once in a lifetime, hard to decide Rolling the dice, and letting it ride The futures forever, but what about now? We’ve got something that’s searched for, but not easily found Creatures of habit, not quick to jump in When nothings established, and the premise is thin But there lies the beauty, in taking a chance A kiss from a smile, true love from romance CHORUS Tell me if it’s something, that you cannot believe Tell me that it’s something, that you can’t see Caught in the middle, but we can’t agree On love in the moment, of destiny We can’t live forever, we’ve only got tonight Time waits for no one, when the stars align Maybe in the future, full of moonlit skies We’ll think about this moment, in the waning light VERSE II Miles behind, or light years ahead Doesn’t really matter, inside of my head Think about the future, think about the past Think about these moments, they never seem to last BRIDGE Love for the ages, written in pages That won’t fade away, from the test of time Ten-thousand paces, or a million places Won’t get us lost, when the hearts our guide An ocean of faces, never replaces Dreams that I have, where I see you clear No chance of falling, when our destiny’s calling Our time is now, and our love is here

1985 03:42
VERSE I Think I’m gonna’ take a ride Set my time machine for ‘85 Where the colors feel alive Stuck inside the neon signs Find adventure in the night And take a picture with my eyes I wanna’ know what it’s like The analog side of life CHORUS Strangers in the night will make you feel alive And constellations in the dark will be defined If you wanna’ take a ride, to a place in ‘85 Just close your eyes, and you and I, will take a trip through time VERSE II Put my car in overdrive Let the future pass me by There’s something here I can’t describe Its something that I can’t deny Some will say that it’s a lie A journey through both space a time But they will never change my mind I’ve never felt more alive BRIDGE We can hold our breath, under a red sunset And nostalgic dreams will be all in our heads The past is gone and now there’s nothing left Until we dream again, we’ll remember then
4.
VERSE I Emptiness, all too real We look inside, just to feel Connected more, than we have been Since time has come, and gone again The age has come, for us to be Transients, among machines PRE-CHORUS Reduced to a set, of hollow moving parts Traded out our souls, and cast aside our hearts Never stopped to ask, in what we shouldn’t trust Does anything remain, left of us CHORUS Tell me now, baby can you see The difference from, the man and the machine You can try, but its so hard to tell, The person from, the ghost within the shell VERSE II Hollowed out, nothing left Experience, synthetic death Starved of touch, lost our sight The ghost within, comes to life Connected now, connected in To nothingness, to feed within BRIDGE They say that we, are only human now Changed into something, some else, somehow Maybe we've let, the ghost become ourselves Maybe its the last thing, that we've got left FINAL CHORUS We're reaching out, we're trying to see Is there anyone, inside the screen Made of flesh and bone, we must let go Of circuits that turn our heart to stone When the light fades, and the powers gone Who will still stand, and continue on We were meant for more, our hearts rebel Against the ghost, within the shell
5.
VERSE I Take a look inside And tell me what you find Is there is something deep within, or does hopelessness reside? Stranded in the plains Where emptiness remains Who will stand when others can't, if the fire fades and dies? CHORUS When the fires out, when there's nothing left but doubt We'll hold onto the flame inside that burns without a sound In the shadows of the dark, in the beating of the heart The embers wait for us to make, the choice to make a spark I won't walk away, I won't close the page Just because the ending isn't what I had arranged The past cannot be changed, the future I reclaim The sun will rise and I will find, my hope within the flame VERSE II Where it comes from, no one knows It’s a mystery that can't be closed It comes and goes, like the rising of the tide So if you see it, run and chase it Let it break your heart to pieces Cause in the end, it brings us back to life BRIDGE I hear the sound, of a thousand generations Who seek not our praise, or words of admiration They only ask of us, to reach inside and find The hope of all nations , and keep the flame alive

Juno 04:02
VERSE I He wakes with the rising, of an old dying sun On a planet called Juno, a man on the run A starship that’s broken, with hope kept alive By the light of a fire, that clings to the night PRE-CHORUS I Alone, in the plains It’s not like him to search the sky and look for clouds of frozen rain And what, remains Of memories that fade away, like the night against the coming day CHORUS Empty world, orbiting a dying star Untouched by, colonies of kingdoms far Lost within, a galaxy so far away A story told, by those who leave but none that stay VERSE II She looks to the future, and considers her time On a planet called Juno, and a love left behind She’ll leave in the morning, but stay for tonight The ocean of stars, can wait one more night PRE-CHORUS II She wakes, at first light The skies are clear for starships here to start their early morning flight And so, with closed eyes She lifts off up into the clouds, and leaves a broken heart behind BRIDGE Flying through the solar system Thinking of the time she kissed him Time is now a part of distance On this inter-stellar highway She’ll age a day, he’ll age a year And telescopes will make it clear She can’t go back to what she had Junos gone, and in the past
7.
VERSE I Signals fade, like evening light Our galaxy, soon fades from sight Engines failed, can’t turn around No one out there, to help us now On our own, we signify The hopes and fears, of all mankind Will we see, our home again Time won’t tell, from now ‘till then CHORUS Lost in space, so far away Transmissions sent, but none obtained Questions of, both when and where We’re calling out, is someone there? VERSE II Colors fade, within our dreams Emptiness, a new routine Hard to sleep, yet we’re awake We still have hope, yet accept our fate Its been three years, since we’ve seen Our home world, of blue and green Reaching out, as protocol Can anyone, still hear our calls? BRIDGE Distance has, broken us down right to our bones We flew too far, through emptiness and the great unknown We’re holding on, lookin’ for a way back to our homes And until then, we’ll hold our breath for any hope

about

For two years, the music and style of Future Ancestors was carefully crafted by Andrew Reece with an old Stratocaster and a beat-up amplifier. The rich layers of synths, 80s inspired drums, and catchy hooks would come later, after each song was written piece by piece, line by line. The end result was the 2019 release of Future Ancestors’ self-titled debut album, which rocketed to the top 10 in the alternative, indie, and unsigned charts on SoundClick.com.

No stranger to modest success as an independent artist in a heavily commercialized industry, Andrew Reece and his very first band “The Drive” were picked up by DC College Magazine for a short feature on their crowd-pleasing alternative vibes. Andrew reflected on reading the finished editorial for the first time: “I remember that the article said that we sounded like what Third Eye Blind would sound like if they had a female lead vocalist, and we took a lot of pride in that.” That article, now framed and proudly displayed in a humble recording studio, is a testament to the songwriting that has endeared Andrew to audiences throughout Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Washington DC.

Two years after graduating college, Andrew made the move from the Washington DC area to Blacksburg, Virginia. A thriving college town, he quickly met up with drummer Chris Riggs, guitarist Andrew “Rusty” Russell, and bassist Steven Kambach, who formed the popular rock group Last Train North. “We originally met on Craigslist. I’ll always remember at every show, I would say something about how we met as complete strangers on the internet, and Chris would always shout ‘but not for sex!’”. The group was well received by locals and college crowds alike, and grew a reputation for their eclectic mix of alternative rock. That reputation led the group to performing at The Sycamore, a venue favored by locals for its distinct charm and sought after by musicians for its undeniable rock and roll vibe. The group would later find itself sharing the bill with classic rock icons Blue Öyster Cult at Roanoke’s 2017 Festival in the Park. Andrew reflected on opening for one his favorite rock bands: “As an independent artist, its what you live for. The crowd, the energy, and the pride of sharing a venue with legendary performers. It gives you a small taste of success, and it is intoxicating.”

Flash forward to 2018, when it was time for a new musical journey. Music was changing faster than it ever had before. Basement rockers and bedroom producers had carved out a piece of the music industry for themselves, and Andrew was no exception. “I came up with the stage name ‘Future Ancestors’, because I knew the music would deal with themes of humanity as it currently exists, and how it is changing at a blistering pace, right before our eyes.” Those themes would permeate the music of Future Ancestors, which resulted in the release of a self-titled debut EP in 2019. To his surprise, Andrew found that four of the tracks found a place in the top 10 in various sub-genres on SoundClick.com. “It was definitely a pleasant surprise. As an independent artist, you always have to believe in yourself. To see the songs get to where they did, it was very validating.” Andrew wasted no time in writing his next batch of songs, carving out hooks and melodies early in 2020. But the sound of the sophomore release, “When the Fires Out”, is by and large a deviation from his debut under Future Ancestors. The production value is incredibly detailed and rich. There is no doubt that an indie artist can compete with the recording studio titans, as “When the Fires Out” features a crisp, punchy, stereo image that is absolutely radio ready. The songs themselves are definitely alternative in nature, but clearly borrow from the 80s with big, open reverbs, and a healthy dose of synthesizers. Cellos, violins, and even a trumpet make their appearance in the EP’s closing track “Lost in Space”, which tells the tale of explorers who wandered too far from home. The EP explores the changes in the human experience, from our online personas in “Ghost Within the Shell” to a philosophical discussion on what drives mankind forward in the EP’s titular track “When the Fires Out”.

With so much in flux in the midst of a pandemic, its anybody’s guess as to what will happen to independent artists like Future Ancestors. If there was perhaps a one sentence summary for “When the Fires Out”, it is that “the future is uncertain”. With that said, it’s a good bet that Future Ancestors will be joining us for the ride.
